Abstract

Growing a culture of literacy (reading and writing) is a basic requirement in improving the quality of education in an increasingly competitive era of globalization. We realize that our nation's current literacy culture is still low. Since the current era of technological sophistication, the attraction of children is no longer a book but a device and television. Therefore efforts to foster a reading culture need to be important in reforming the world of education through reading.    

One way to develop literacy culture with reading learning is by using a process approach, which includes several stages of the stages of reading preparation, reading activities, the stage of responding, the stage of exploring the reading and the stages of deepening interprets.

To foster a reading culture there needs to be a school literacy movement through the movement of the field of literature on Hinduism (Bharata yudha Comics) to enable students to understand knowledge and practice the moral values ​​contained in it.The moral values ​​of bharata yudha comics include: The value of affection between parents and children, the value of honesty in carrying out tasks, the value of respect for the teacher and the value of truth and justice.

The cultivation of literacy culture can be started from the home environment as the first and foremost educator, the school teacher who is responsible for the quality of education, and the community where the child is located.
